hello i have an old commercial stainless steel fridge. i don't know the model or even the specs, all i know is that is makes ticking sounds once in a while and it drips water from the interior and exterior. what can i do to fix this?
The ticking sound is your defrost timer. It is getting worn out. You can hear it during the defrost because in defrost everything else shuts down and it is quiet. These days most timers are accumulative which means they only run when the refrigerator thermostat is closed when running or in defrost. You won't hear those when it is satisfied and off.
The water is the defrost water and a different problem. Your drain is plugged and the water is collecting and dripping inside the unit instead of down the drain. If this is a unit with the compressor on top getting to the defrost drain can be a major pain and I wouldn't try to talk you through it.
But you could try emptying it, letting thaw for a couple days, then remove all the water. Sometimes that works but usually it won't unplug a bad drain. And top units have extra heaters in the pan that often go bad. Again, somewhat major repair because of difficult access.
