If You Don't Know The Gambling Laws, Why Not Play Online Poker Instead?
Luckily, the Gambling Act of 2005 hasn’t hurt the UK gambling industry too badly. In fact, the law that was designed to keep gambling under control hasn’t been used much as opposed to say the UIGEA in the United States. But just recently, we’ve seen the act rear its head in a case against a Cheshire pub that may have a whole lot of people wanting to stick to online poker from now on.
The UK Gambling Commission, which was formed as a result of the Gambling Act of 2005, recently commissioned three men for organising poker games out of the Cherry Tree pub based in Runcorn, Cheshire. The three gentlemen who were busted for setting up real money poker tables in their pub were cited for holding illegal games. As a result of being commissioned, the pub will no doubt be under strict watch from now on.
The Gambling Commission’s Regional North West Compliance Manager, Alan Green, was happy with the way things were dealt with and said, “This investigation is a good example of joint partnership working together to keep gambling fair and safe for everyone in Cheshire. The case serves as a reminder to those responsible for managing pubs of their responsibility to monitor gaming on their premises.” The investigation started after it was discovered that the three men were holding games in their pub with buy-ins higher than the £5 limits allowed under the 2005 law.
And while three pub owners being commissioned for their actions aren’t bad enough to start a worldwide panic, it is sufficient to have other pub owners worried about any illegal poker games they hold in their bar.Bear in mind though that this is the first time that the UK Gambling Commission has taken any such action. If the Gambling Commission keeps going after pubs, then it will certainly have people thinking about staying home and playing Internet poker from now on.There are plenty of different games to join in with.
