How To Apply Wax To Your Snowboard At Home

If you have made the decision to buy your own snowboard, you will want to look after it as best you can. One way of doing this is making sure the base is in good condition and waxed well. The reason you wax the board is not to increase grip like waxing surfboards, but instead to make the board more slippery and faster on the slopes. The wax actually seeps into the board's base when applied. When you’re riding on the slopes the wax causes the contact layer of snow to melt, so in effect you ride on a very thin layer of water. here's the best way to achieve a perfectly waxed board

Remove previous coat. Before you put on the new wax, make sure the whole board has been cleaned thoroughly. Find a plastic scraper and careful take off the wax using long smooth movements. You may want to use a hair-dryer to soften the wax and base cleaner which you can get from a snowboards shop. Don't be tempted to use a metal tool though as you can scratch the base layer.

Iron on the wax. Find an iron that nobody minds you using and get it to a gentle-wax-melting temperature. This is usually the same temperature you would use to iron cotton. When the correct temperature has been reached, drip the wax over the base in lines by holding the wax bar against the iron above the board. Now iron the board directly and move it all around so that every inch has a thin wax coating.

Finishing
. After the wax has cooled down (usually take around thirty minutes) you can start finishing the base. To do this you need to get the wax to shine by rubbing it down well with a cloth. Finally texture the wax and remove any prominent areas by brushing it down with a hard-bristled brush, before buffing it for a final time. Now your ready for some extreme sports action
